Umiker-Garrett Wedding Takes Place in Toronto
A wedding of local interest took place in Toronto, Ontario, on Saturday, January 9, when Rev. Father Reeves united in marriage Mary Adella, daughter o Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Garrett, of Westham Street, to John E. Umiker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Umiker, of Stanley Street.
The ceremony took place at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Toronto.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her uncle, B. J. Lussier of Toronto, wore a white corded faille taffeta suit, which was trimmed with crystal beads. It was fashioned with a ballerina-length full crinoline-styled skirt. The bride wore a white felt hat, trimmed with crystal beads and wore matching gloves.
She carried a nosegay of pink sweetheart roses and white hyacinths, with white satin streamers.
The bride's cousin, Miss Denise Lussier, of Toronto, was the bridesmaid. She wore a taffeta and net ballerina dress with a short jacket of periwinkle blue and a matching hat of taffeta.
Yellow Rosebuds
Her shower nosegay was of yellow rosebuds and white hyacinths, with yellow streamers.
Darrell Turner, formerly of Ladner, was the best man.
A reception was held at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Lussier.
Mrs. Garrett, the bride's mother, received the guests wearing a grey suit with winter white accessories. Her corsage was of pink roses.
Mrs. Umiker, the groom's mother, chose a black chiffon velvet dress and pale beige accessories. She wore a corsage of talisman roses.
During the reception telegrams were received from the groom's father, Walt Umiker, and from the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Christian. A phone call was also received from the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Reg. Birch, of Maple Avenue.
For travelling the bride changed to a navy taffeta dress, trimmed with white angora. She wore a white felt hat and a navy blue topcoat. Her corsage was of pink roses. Mr. and Mrs. Umiker have taken up residence in Toronto.
