Hi--I found your page on google. I was surprised to find another Charles Umiker out there, though it looks as if we only overlapped for three years. I didn't know about the west coast Umikers--our branch came to New York state from Switzerland around 1912. I wonder if we can figure out the common ancestor...
Thank you for commenting. You must have had a bit of a Mark Twain moment when you saw the title of the post! (Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated!) Sharron Umiker has done a lot of research on the eastern branch of the Umiker family. We meet up at "Jakob Umiker" b abt 1756 and "Mrs. Jakob Umiker" b abt 1759. As far as we know they had two sons, Abraham and Ludwig. Abraham's great-grandson settled in New York. Ludwig's grandson came from Switzerland and died in Washington state.
